Secret Bothy’s traditional exterior belies its elegant interior. This is a 19th century cottage with 21st century credentials. Foremost in its new design is its practicality. The layout, furnishings, equipment and amenities are all carefully chosen to create a vintage country cottage with comfort to rival the level associated with top class hotels.
The central living space illustrates that well. Light and airy, the vaulted ceiling and exposed stone wall are arresting features that seem to confound the external dimensions. The big, open plan room is particularly inviting. Thanks to the underfloor heating that been installed throughout the cottage,a warm ambient temperature is guaranteed. However, the wood burning stove with complimentary basket of logs is just waiting to be lit if only to complete the idyll. A TV screen, with Sky connection, is discreetly wall-mounted at one end of the room. At the other is a smart kitchen, complete with dishwasher, electric oven, gas hob, fridge, freezer and dining table. The pantry is kept stocked with all essentials for guests’ convenience.
Both bedrooms have a double bed, made-up with non-allergenic bedlinen, and are furnished with TV, radio and hairdrier. A baby cot is available on request. One bedroom has a spacious ensuite bathroom with jacuzzi bath, walk-in shower, underfloor heating, demisting mirror, heated towel rail, soft towels, bathrobes and toiletries: in fact, everything necessary for luxuriating. The second bedroom has an ensuite walk-in shower that is similarly well equipped.
The entrance to the cottage is via a bootroom, designed for safe storage of outdoor gear. This area doubles as a utility room with washing machine, clothes drier, sink and iron.
Secluded in a private garden among some of Scotland’s most stunning scenery it would be easy to forget the outside world. However, for those who need to keep in touch there is wi-fi internet, Sky channels delivered by satellite and a reasonable mobile phone signal.
Private parking is available at the front of the cottage where there is also a covered area for bicycles. French doors at the back open on to a well tended walled garden.
